Swedish Massage is one of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques. It refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles and stimulate circulation by applying pressure to/against deeper muscles and bones. While applying pressure, the massage therapist rubs in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage uses a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements. To reduce friction to the skin, oil is used in conjunction to the movements.
